Cats are the most popular pet in the UK and rightly so ! The make a wonderful addition to any household, but if you are thinking about taking one home, please consider these things first :

Food

Adult cats should be given two meals a day of a complete balanced, good quality food.  Kittens should have four meals a day of special kitten food.  The amount and price of the food you give your cat depends on the food you are using, your cats size and his level of activity.  Always provide your cat with a fresh supply of drinking water.

Insurance

It is advisable to get pet insurance to cover veterinary costs in the event of an accident or illness.

Vaccinations

Kittens and adult cats will need to be vaccinated.  Vaccinations are available to protect your cats against cat flu, enteritis and leukaemia.  Vaccinations usually take place from nine weeks old (your vet can advise you on this).  Adult cats will need a booster vaccination once a year.

Flea and Worm treatments

The most effective treatments are available from your vet and come in many different forms (eg pills, injections or spot-on).  Your cat should be regularly treated according to instructions given by your vet.
