About the Society

Chobham Road. Woking, early 1900.

Now Woking is a bustling commercial centre with almost 100,000 residents.

The social and economic transformation of the area in the last century and a half tells a complex and dramatic story.

The manorial system has endowed us with large areas of common land, once part of the manorial wastes.

So we have a rich history which is a rewarding subject to learn about and investigate.

Woking History Society exists to help you to do that, and do it informally and in a pleasant social atmosphere.

The society was founded in 1968 to promote an interest in local history.

Talks on aspects of history in Woking and allied historical topics are given eight times a year and are open to everyone. Non-members are charged £2.00 for each meeting. They are free to members. A cup of tea is available at the meetings.

Why not come along to see how easy it is to feel at home with us?
