The Waterer Family owned Knaphill Nursery from 1790. They were famous for their Rhododendrons and Azaeas.

The Crematorium early 19th Century

St John's Crematorium was opened by the Cremation Society in 1885, the first cremation being that of Mrs Pickersgill on 26 March. This was the first legal cremation since pagan times.

Brookwood Cemetery 1995

The Anglican or South Chapel built 1854

Brookwood Cemetery was opened by the London Necropolis and National Mausoleum Company in 1854. It now covers 450 acres, and is the biggest in Britain, but originally was intended to be 2000 acres. Woking was developed on this former cemetery land. An unusual feature was the railway branch with two stations going into the cemetery.

Brookwood Hospital early circa 1900

Known as Brookwood Asylum when it opened in 1867, Brookwood Hospital occupied a large site at Knaphill. It had a dairy farm, a coblers workshop, and a large ballroom to provide all the needs of the patients. Many local business's provided the Hospital with services. In recent years the land has been sold off for development, the main block being converted into luxury appartments
