ODE TO A SKYLARK I

My love is like a hedgehog
     That's sweetly played in tune
And dances in the cool of the midnight milk
By the light of a silvery spoon

My love is like a hedgehog
     Across a table hurling
After the ball is over
In which my love lies curling

My love is like a hedgehog
     Whose squeak is yet unsquoken
I brought my love a lettuce leaf
For ah! my heart was broken

I brought my love a lettuce leaf
And left it on the lawn
And though it take ten thousand year
I'll meet her there at dawn

ODE TO A SKYLARK II

Hail to thee, blithe hedgehog!
Bird though never wert!
     Yeah!

   ODE TO A SKYLARK III

My heart leaps up when I behold
     A hedgehog in the sky
So was it when my life began
So is it now I am a man
So be it when I shall grow old
     Or let me die!
