BUSY BUSY BUSY .....
What life
is this if, full of care
We have no time to stand and stare.....
No time to lie beneath a tree
And watch a buzzing bumble bee
Or blackbirds flying in a vee
No time while others fuss and drive
To sit atop a number five
And watch the morning post arrive
Or when the present is too tense
And everything makes too much sense
No time to lean against a fence
Or climb up on a sturdy bough
And watch some ruminating cow
Make up her mind what to eat now
No time when passing near a
lake
To stop and watch a duckling take
A frantic swim in mother's wake
No time to sit upon a stile
Instead of going one more mile
And watch the squirrels for a while
No time to watch, if it should
rain,
While stuck upon some steamy train
The droplets trickle down the pane
Or when the sun comes out to dry
No time to turn around and try
To see the rainbow in the sky
Then nightly let's leave time
to spare
And slip into an easy chair
And stir our day around and share
And catch the thoughts we thought before
And talk them onto memory's shore
And keep them there for evermore
For poor this
life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare
But just as poor without, I think,
The time to sit, and talk, and drink.
