Benskins were a mixed side and attracted members from the area around Watford, Hertfordshire, and as far out as Harrow and Luton. Benskins Morris performed the more absorbing and complex dances associated with the North West corner of England. The dances are typified by sets of eight dancers wearing wooden clogs and bright colourful costumes dancing to a large band of musicians.
Benskins' name was rooted in the traditions of the last century when many of the North West Morris sides were under the patronage or were employees of local industry. When the side was formed in 1986 it continued this tradition by approaching Benskins Brewery, who at that time had a brewery in Watford. They agreed that the side could use their name and colours. In 2004 with dwindling numbers the side decided to hang up its clogs and retire. Benskins were pleased to help preserve one of England's folk traditions.
