I NEVER MET COLETTE

I used to hang around with our kid
We both thought Elvis was the one
Though he was shy, he was ready
I guess he knew his time would come

He used to work down on the tug boats
When Billy played his guitar
And when he sang his songs to Margo
She told him that he'd be a star

But I never met Colette
Did she stand him up? That's how it seems
I never met Colette
So was she only ever a dream?

He made the charts, he made the movies
He'd often run and hide away
To sit and wonder at the wild life
Or simply watch the horses play

When Jealousy became a classic
It was a favourite at the Loc
Now paradise is where you'll find him
He was the gentle king of rock

But I never met Colette
Did she stand him up? That's how it seems
I never met Colette
So was she only ever a dream?
