If an arrow misses the target how far back should you look?
By studying the arrow trajectory model given in another note it is possible to derive an equation to indicate where to look for an arrow that misses the target. For this purpose it is not necessary to be precise since only an estimate of where the arrow passed the target is available.
If the height of the arrow as it passes the target is estimated to be y then the overshoot is approximately
overshoot = 720*y/R
where R is the target range. For example, at 90m an arrow passing just over the target will overshoot by about 16m.
