Ring & Chain Flutter - Sue Hanson © 2005
A simple ring & chain butterfly using a helper thread for that final join. 
Uses picot gauges and both up & down of joins… 
Alternative option of a spilt ring for head with Josephine knots on the antennae

Shuttle with 1/2 yard tail
Gauges 1/2” & 3/4”

Top right wing     R1: 6 - 2 -- (1/2”) 2 - 3 vsp 2 clr RW
Lay in helper thread with loop end facing to the front of work
      Ch: 2 vsp 2 RW

Lower right wing R2: 2 + (R1) 3 - 5 clr RW


Tail  Ch: 3 RW
R3: 2 -- (1/2”) clr RW
Ch: 3 RW

Lower left wing R4: 5 - 3 vsp 2 clr RW
Ch: 2 + (adj Ch) 2 RW

Top left wing R5: 2 + (R4) 3 - 2 -- (1/2”) 2 - 6 clr RW

Head     R6: 5 --- (3/4”) 2 --- (3/4”) 5 clr
Pull tail trough at base of R1 with helper loop.  Tie, glue & trim close

Alternative head
Pull tail through at base of R1 with helper loop & use end to finger tat side 2 of SR
SR6: 6 // 6 clr
With Sh#1 leave a small space JK 10 (2nd half ds) clr
Finger tat other antenna with tail
Leave an equal space JK 10 (1st half ds) clr
Dab a blob of glue on the back of both JK & allow to dry then trim close

Helper thread: a short length of fine thread, doubled with the loop to front of work to aid joining into tight spots
