Hi Honey- I'm home!!!  US Bald Eagle & mate
(Hawk Conservancy)
Hi Honey- I'm home!!! This American Bald Eagle, (It's not actually bald - the name is from Piebald, meaning black & white) had been shot and lost a wing.  The (then) Director (Reg Smith) pointed out that although the bird couldn't fly, he could still breed and his young would fly.  Beautiful philosophy!!!  Apparently, because the bird only had one wing, he found it rather awkward to mount his mate so he had to lean against the wall whilst he 'consummated' his relationship.  (It adds a whole new meaning to 'knee tremblers').  It must have worked because  they have released several birds back to the American wilderness since.

No photo's and that's FINAL

The Griffon Vulture was perfectly OK until anyone pointed a camera at it.  You can see the result!!!

Left a little bit and I can give 'im a 'nose job'
(Hawk Conservancy)
Nose Job!!! This shot was taken during Ashley Smith's Kestrel demo.  I freely admit the Kestrel is my most favouritest of all the Raptors.  The others are beautiful and awe inspiring but the Kestrel - aaaahhhhh....

Kestrel out for a stroll.

Same bird below but a bit closer (and safer :o)

Wheeee......

Wheeee...... Peregrine Falcon in 'full swoop mode'.  This was one of the 'neck ricker' shots, still suffering two days later with twinges but definitely worth it.

Carousel of Kites
(Hawk Conservancy)
Carousel of Kites The Hawk Conservancy has what must be  the most spectacular demo I have ever seen.  The Carousel of Kites.  The aim is to get as many Black and Brahminy Kites in the air at the same time.  Up to the last time I visited, the record was 13.  The most I ever caught was 11.  WOW....... a sky full of birds is undescribable.  I could only get 5 in the frame though.  They were that fast!
