Metal Detecting Hints & Tips *

Detecting is a great hobby
It helps you stay fit and healthy and gets you out in the fresh air.  Walking is the best form of exercise, next to digging nice finds, which is the best exercise for the smile muscles.  So keep smiling!

When you start off in this great hobby of ours it can be confusing and very frustrating. Here are some of my tips that I hope will help - and could save you a few gray hairs!
Join a Local Club
There are many excellent clubs spread around the country.  Ask for a list when you contact The Searcher. Getting together with a group of people who have an interest in the hobby, and who know the ropes, is the quickest way to get started on the right track.  And they organize detecting outings!
My own club is the North West Metal Detectors Club - a well established and friendly club - with detecting outings every Sunday!
Read the Metal Detecting Magazines
There are various magazines out there dedicated to our hobby.  They are a fount of information with details of events, clubs, hobby issues, and trader advertisements.  Find out what is going on in and around the hobby!
My favorite magazine is The Searcher.  I believe it's a must for all detectorists, whether beginners or old hands, and a good read for anyone interested in the history of our ancestors, and the coins and artifacts they left behind!
