Ellerton Researchers
I have come into contact with many other genealogists tracing their
"Ellerton
roots". The sharing of information can only be beneficial to all concerned, so if you feel
that any of the following can help you in your research (and vice versa of course) please
contact me - or email them directly where an address is shown.
Researchers from the "Matthew
1744" tree:
- Peter Ellerton (p.ellerton@btopenworld.com)
has collected a great deal of information on the Ellertons of Swaledale from the 12th
century. He has detailed pedigrees of individuals such as John de Ellerton (1325-1384),
who in order to inherit the Wycliffe estate (the two families having been earlier united
by marriage) had to assume the Wycliffe surname.
- Diane Ellerton is researching her husband's family who lived in the Hull
area (Hedon and Cottingham) in the 19th century. Robert Ellerton (1874-1954) was the
postmaster at Hedon around 1900, and his ancestors were Frederic Thomas (b.1846) and
William Wilson Ellerton (b.1815/7).
- Don Ellerton resides in British Columbia, Canada, and has roots leading
back to North Yorkshire. His website is at www.ellertonfamily.com
and his email address is donellerton@shaw.ca
- Hallie Ellerton (Hallie@sd.cybernex.net)
lives in South Dakota, USA where her husband Alvin's grandfather (Reuben Ellerton, born in
Cowton, Durham in 1852) emigrated to in 1882.
Researchers from other trees:
- Tom Ellerton is researching his family who lived in various parts of
NorthYorkshire - places including Scotton, Brompton, Hipswell and Richmond. His direct
"line" goes back to George (born c.1645) of Stanton.
[Tom - please contact me, as I have mislaid your
email address]
- John Ellerton's
ancestors were predominantly from Burneston and Kirklington, North Yorkshire. He descends
from a line of Francis Ellerton's, one of whom became mayor of Tiverton,
Devon, where he had moved to in the 1830's - see the "Francis
1712 Tree".
- Danny Ellerton (dannyellerton@bigpond.com)
of Victoria, Australia, is looking for links to John Ellerton who married Sarah Howard in
1804, and their son William (born in Staffordshire c.1806) who married Mary Newbon.
- Kim Proctor (kicms@aol.com) of Calgary,
Canada is looking for more information on her gg-grandfather John Ellerton (1805-1875),
who was buried in Newcastle-under-Lyme cemetery, Stoke on Trent.
- David Ellerton (DEller1227@aol.com)
whose earliest known ancestor is William, born in Virginia, USA, 1773.
- Calvin Lamb's Ellerton links settled in Quebec, Canada, in the 18th
century, as detailed on his website.
Ellerton Hall
Those of you who want to do some "grass roots" research in North Yorkshire
might like to consider stopping off at Ellerton Hall guesthouse (close to the ruins of
Ellerton Abbey) which often provides accommodation for Ellerton researchers. Full details
