John is shown living at Middlesbrough with his parents and siblings at 114 Union Street, Linthorpe (1891), and at 231 Linthorpe Road (1901)
On his father's Letters of Admons (April 1914) John is shown as one of the sureties - his address recorded as 5 Tavistock Place, Sunderland, Co.Durham. Probate on his brother William's will was granted to John in January 1918 as sole executor. He was also the executor of wills for John Ellerton of Heighington, Co.Durham (1922), his sister Marie Elizabeth Ellerton of Redcar (1923), and [his mother?] Margaret Ellerton of Redcar (1927).
John and Maud ran (owned?) the Rose & Crown at Romaldkirk (Barnard Castle, Co.Durham) - click here for the current owners' website. Maud died at Romaldkirk (John also?).
The photograph opposite shows Maud (right) outside the Rose & Crown, probably shortly after the end of WW2. If you recognise her friend please let me know who she is!
