At the time of the 1851 Census Eleanor was listed as a 4-year old living with her grandparents (Edward/Mary Ellerton) at Appleton: her parents were enumerated in nearby Tunstall. In 1861 the whole family were living with her grandparents in East Appleton: next to "Low Pasture House", and close to "Rudd Hall Farmhouse" - both of which were shown as uninhabited at the time of the census.
Some time between the death of her father (1865) and grandfather (1870) the family moved to "The Sportsman's Arms" at Tunstall (per the 1871 Census). Shortly before the census Eleanor had married Thomas Robertson (born in Forfarshire, Scotland in 1844) and they were enumerated at 84 Wilson Street, Middlesbrough (Eleanor's brother John was a lodger there at the time).
At the time of the 1881 Census - where Thomas was described as a "Brewer's Traveller" - the family lived at 31 Edwards Street, Stockton-on-Tees, Durham. Under the provisions of the the Will of her grandfather Edward Ellerton the income from his estate was divided equally between Eleanor and her siblings when the youngest of the family (Robert Charles) attained the age of 21 in December 1882.
The 1901 Census for Middlesbrough showed Eleanor, Thomas ("Traveller in Liquor Trade"), and son Sydney (b. Stockton, "Bank Clerk") in the same household - address not yet established. It is likely that their other two sons were recorded at two other addresses in Middlesbrough: John (28, b. Midd., Ships Fitter - plus his wife Ellen and children Alice, John, and Violet); William (23, b. Newcastle, Northumberland, plus his wife Janet and children Winifred, James, and Thomas).
The family appears to have moved to Westwood Avenue, Linthorpe, near Middlesbrough, later as this is where her husband died in 1908. Eleanor, her husband, and son Sydney were all buried at Linthorpe (graves 3507c and 3508c).
