According to GRO Births Index and the christening date shown on the IGI Elizabeth was conceived out of wedlock, as her parents did not marry until June 1861 - although interestingly there is a disparity of 1 year in subsequent census listings. The 1871 Census showed Elizabeth (shown as aged 8, rather than 9) living at 50 Dundas Street, Yarm (not far from Linthorpe and Stockton) with her parents, two youngest sisters and her maternal grandfather.
At the time of the 1881 census Elizabeth [shown as aged 18, rather than 19] lived at 3 Baxter Street, Linthorpe (near Middlesborough) with her parents, siblings, and grandfather. She was still living there at the time of her marriage in 1883 (her sister Emma was a witness), at which time she moved into the house next door (1 Baxter Street).
The family moved to Stockton-On-Tees, Co.Durham around 1890, where their daughter Margaret died shortly afterwards. At the time of the 1891 Census they were living at The Grove, Norton, but later moved to 5 Salisbury Terrace, Norton - where their daughter Hilda died and son Charles was born in 1896. When her husband started a new job in Liverpool around 1900 they relocated to Lancashire (91 Clare Road, Bootle).
The 1901 Census shows the family living in 45 Downing Street, Bootle - with Elizabeth's age shown as 38 [rather than 39 or 40, according to her christening date].
Elizabeth was the executrix of her husband's will when he died at just 48 in 1910.
