Elizabeth was bequethed £100 in her father's will of 1802. She married farmer Thomas Bussey in 1806.
The records of solicitors Hanby Holmes include a 2/9/1828 "copy draft bargain and sale" by Thomas Bowes and R M Dinsdale to John Ellerton [Elizabeth's brother] of Darlington, gentleman, and Thomas Bussey of Melsonby, yeoman, of the tithes of land at Cockerton and covenant to surrender such copyhold lands there to James Moate and Mary, his wife .... Consideration: £1190 for the copyholds and £140 for the freehold tithes by Mary Moate to Bowes/Dinsdale. [Durham Record Office, ref. D/HH 2/8/469].
At the 1841 Census Elizabeth and Thomas were living in Melsonby with her sister Eleanor and a servant, Eleanor Dunn (aged "15").
She was recorded as a widow and "annuitant" (pensioner) in the March 1851 Census for Melsonby - living with her nieces Mary and Jane Ellerton at "Laton Moor House" [the latter consisted of 47 "households" on the census return!]
The Hull Packet reported her death on 12th June 1851: "At Melsonby, in the 77th year of her age, Mrs Elizabeth Bussey, sister to Mr Ellerton of Appleton". Although there is no trace of her being buried there herself, the transcription of a family gravestone at St James the Great, Melsonby, possibly relates to her husband Thomas:
"Sacred to the memory of George Bussey who d. Sep 26 1811 aged 75 yrs also Dorothy his wife who departed this life Dec 20 1825 aged 91 yrs. Also Thomas Bussey son of the above named George and Dorothy Bussey who departed this life on 1 Jan 1847 aged 70 years".
An adjoining grave is possibly the resting place of other relatives: John Bussey (1801-1882), his wife Sarah (1798-1856), daughter Elizabeth Scott (1830-1861) - possibly married to the son of Thomas Scott? - and son Thomas (1828-1882).
