David ELLERTON

David had a twin brother Edward, who died in infancy.

His father's will (February 1802) allowed for property in "Bellerby or elsewhere" to be divided equally between David and his brothers (John and Edward) as soon as the latter reached 21. The 1807 "Poll for Knights of the Shire" recorded David as a voter residing in Melsonby with freehold property in Bellerby.

The 7/1/1848 issue of the Newcastle Courant reported his death "At Melsonby on the 29th ult, aged 66"

Note: Only two David Ellertons were recorded in the 1841 Census: one aged just 4 and the other shown as aged 58, a schoolmaster, living in East Witton [3m south of Leyburn].  Also in East Witton in 1841 was a Christopher Ellerton (20, ag. labourer) - possibly David's son?? This Christopher was shown in 1851 living in Newton-le-Willows, with his birthplace being shown as East Witton - the IGI shows his christening there in Feb 1822 and his mother as "Eleanor" {or was this his grandmother?}
