George ELLERTON

• Born - 1739, probably at Skelton Cote Farm (Bellerby, N.Yorkshire).
• Baptised - 29th October 1739 (Downholme PR - not shown on IGI).
• Died - 1799 or 1816? The NBI shows a George buried on 1/6/1816, aged 77, at All Saints, Sherburn In Elmet. [Nigel suggests that he died in 1799 at Kippax].
• Parents - John Ellerton (1694-1774) and Elizabeth Carter
• Married - Margaret Alderson (b. 20/2/1744, Arkengarthdale) on 14th May 1767, per Richmond PR's.
• Children - John (1768-1820), Elizabeth (b.1770), George (1772-1845), Joseph (1775-1828), Edward (1779-1868), Sarah (b.1781), Christopher (b.1784).
• Occupation - Commissioner of Excise in Sherburn-in-Elmet, N.Yorkshire

According to the 1857 letter written by Edward Ellerton George was born "either at Barden Dykes in the Parish of Hawkswell [Hauxwell?] or Skelton Cote Farm in the Chapelry of Bellerby in the Parish of Spennithorne"

In his father's will of 1772 George was bequeathed £100 and "The East Dwelling house in Bellerby late in the possession of Thomas Thompson with the Turfhouse [?] Shop and other appertainces therewith occupied (the West end with the appertainces now being in the possession of ...... Scott) and also my share or allotment upon Bellerby Moor or Common containing by .... four acres until his son John shall attain the age of 25 ...."
