Edward ELLERTON

Edward lived at Barden Dykes, Skelton Cote, and Bellerby - south west of Richmond, North Yorkshire.

There were several entries in the Quarter Sessions (the predecessor of our current County Courts) records which probably relate to this Edward:
Michaelmas session, 1769: "Edward Ellerton of Downholme accused of a Nuisance 1st Oct 1768"
July 1774: "Recognisance of Edward Ellerton of Downholme and Henry Ridley of Walburn for nuisances"
[a "nuisance" usually referred to a smelly heap of rubbish such as a muck heap to the annoyance or obstruction of his neighbours]

In his will of February 1802 Edward bequethed his estate as follows:
- Property in "Bellerby or elsewhere" to be divided equally between sons John, David and Edward, when the latter reached 21.
- An annuity of £30 plus household effects to his wife Eleanor
- £100 to his daughter Elizabeth.
- An annuity of £30 to his daughter Eleanor

The will's executors were " ... my friends William Harrison of the parish of Middleton Tyas ... and Thomas Wardell of Melsonby". [The latter was baptised in Dec 1744 and died in July 1828, aged 83, per the Melsonby M.I.'s].
