The 1891 Census showed Charles living at The Curatage, Davenham, Leftwich
(in the
Rural District of Northwich).
No trace of him in the 1901 Census.
In December 1902 The Guardian reported Jesus College
(Oxford) "elections ... to open scholarships for mathematics ... Charles F
Ellerton, Christ's Hospital".
Kelly's 1902 Directory of Bristol showed him living at 45 Hemlease Gardens, Kelly's 1911 Directory of Sussex listed him as an "Assistant Master" at Eastbourne College, Coates House, and in Kelly's 1915 Directory of Berkshire as a resident teacher (shown as an M.A.) at Radley College. [Note: The 1914 Post Office Banking Directory and Kelly's 1911/1915 Directories of Dorset included a "Charles F. Ellerton, manager, Parr's Bank Ltd, Station Road, Gillingham"].
He served with the Cheshire Regiment (10th Battallion), and was appointed to 2nd Liet. from December 1914. The CWGC website shows that he was a Captain when killed in action on 19/5/1916, and was buried at the Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Calais, France. He is commemorated "as an "Old Wittonian" (ex pupil?) on the War Memorial at Sir John Deane's Grammar School, Northwich. The National Archives shows that he won a WW1 campaign medal whilst a Captain in the Cheshire Regiment.
His 1916 Probate showed that he lived at Liscard, Cheshire. A "regiment photo" of Charles is available for sale at http://www.lulu.com/content/1184314
