The Hull Packet reported the marriage of "Joseph Ellerton, Liverpool, to Isabella, youngest daughter of John Brodrick of this place" at Sculcoates church in June 1836. His three children were born/baptised in Liverpool, but some time later the family moved to Wakefield. White's 1853 Directory of Wakefield included a "Joseph Ellerton, Royal Insurance Co., 8 Old Corn Exchange House, Hatfield Road", and Slater's 1855 Commercial Directory of the Northern Counties included "Royal, Joseph Ellerton, Old Corn Exchange" (under the headings "Fire & Office Agent" and "Share Brokers" in Wakefield). White's 1858 Directory of Wakefield showed "Joseph Ellerton, Borough Councillor, Northgate Ward", working at 7 Old Corn Exchange, and living at 2 Cliff Terrace.
At the time of the 1861 Census Joseph, Isabella and their son George Victor were living at "Thompson's Ye Westgate", Wakefield. His 1865 Probate shows "Joseph Ellerton of Wakefield, sharebroker died 8/6/1865. Will proved on 21st June by Isabella Ellerton the relict, the sole Executrix. Effects under £1,000."
The 1871 census showed Isabella and her son George living at Cliffe Terrace, Wakefield, with a servant.
The 1881 census for St. Johns, Wakefield shows "Isabella Ellerton, W, 67, Hull; George V. Ellerton, U, 42, son, Liverpool". Her 1893 Probate shows: "Isabella Ellerton of 16 St. John's Place, North Wakefield. Widow, died 22/2/1893. Probate on 28th March to George Victor Ellerton (sharebroker) and John Ellerton (M.D.). Effects £3,083" - GRO Index Q1 for Wakefield. [Click here for a transcription of her Will]
