Pigot's Directories of 1834/1841, White's of 1837, and Slater's of 1855 all included a "John Ellerton, Surgeon" at Aberford. An entry in the Prerogative Court of York indexes for 1845 shows "Intestate, George Ellerton; Administrator: John Ellerton, Abberford".
The 1861 census for Aberford shows John and Jane living in Main Street, Aberford (plus a surgeon's apprentice and two servants) - in the house next to his nephew John Ellerton who was also a GP/surgeon.
Notices relating to his death in 1868 appeared in The Times and the Leeds Mercury. His Probate stated: "John Ellerton of Aberford, Yks. Surgeon, died 22/11/1868. Will proved at Wakefield by Jane Frances Ellerton the widow, Robert Daniel Ryder, and William Paver. Effects under £18,000 - resworn in November 1869 at under £20,000."
The 1871 census for Aberford shows Jane as an "annuitant" living in Aberford with "Matilda Richards, 19, companion, Wales" and two servants.
Jane died in 1892 aged 84 [GRO Index Q1 for Tadcaster] "at Conservative Cottage, Aberford, aged 84" (Leeds Mercury) and her Probate showed: "Jane Frances Ellerton of Aberford, widow, died 25/2/1892. Probate on 4th April to Robert Daniel Ryder, and George Victor Ellerton (sharebroker). Effects £12,597 - resworn in September 1892 at £12,819". A notice to her creditors appeared in the 29th April 1892 edition of the London Gazette.
