Monumental Inscriptions - Yorkshire  

The gravestones in many Yorkshire churchyards have been transcribed over the years and printed lists are available at a nominal cost from Family History Societies. I have accumulated details of many Ellerton burials during my research, and list them below to aid others in their research. Gravestone situated next to the large memorial cross honouring those who died in WW1 and WW2:

Thomas Ellerton, gardener, died 18th March 1881 aged 71.
Ann Ellerton, died 1st October 1890 aged 73 (wife of Thomas above).
George Ellerton, joiner, died 4th January 1893 aged 50 (son of Thomas above)
Emma Ellerton, died 10th July 1911 aged 65 (wife of George above)
Joseph Ellerton, died January 1918 aged 90
Elizabeth Ellerton, died July 1891 aged 61 (wife of Joseph above).

Beverley (ERY), St.Mary's
Thomas Ellerton, schoolmaster, died 26th February 1801 aged 80.

Burneston
Dorothy Ellerton, wife of Francis of Scabed Newton, died December ?? 1788 aged 74?

Edward Ellerton of Tunstall, late of Appleton, died 16th October 1870 aged 86
Mary Ellerton, died 12th June 1863 aged 76 (wife of Edward above).
Edward Ellerton, died 2nd April 1865 aged 52 (son of Edward and Mary above).
Margaret Ellerton, died 7th September 1876 aged 58 (wife of Edward above)

Downholme - St.Michael and All Angels
These details are listed on 5 table tombs situated directly below the church bell tower (click here for a picture). All relate to the "Richard 1678" tree:
Richard Ellerton of Ellerton Lodge, born 9th January 1813, died 11th September 1873, aged 60 years [reverse side of the inscription totally erased] [no children; son of Christopher, 1779-1839]

Annie Ellerton daughter of Christopher and Ann of Ellerton Lodge [see below] died 7th August 1847 aged 37 yrs.  "This tomb is erected Apr 1874 by her nephew and nieces D F Alderson, M A Alderson, C Gibbes and E Reed"

Richard Ellerton of Richmond, died 21st Oct 1800 aged 60 yrs [son of Edward, 1714-1780].
Catherine Ellerton, wife of Richard Ellerton, died 15th Oct 1817 aged 77 yrs.
Rev. Edward Ellerton DD eldest son of the above. He was senior fellow of Magdalene College Oxford, 1st rector of Theale nr Reading for which he had served 21 years. Born 30th Jan 1771, died 26th Dec 1851 aged 80 yrs.

Elizabeth Ellerton his wife, died 3rd Dec 1854 [at Leamington, Warwickshire]

Christopher Ellerton of Downholme, died 5th May 1839 in his 61st year [son of Richard/Catherine above]
Anne Ellerton, daughter of the above who died 7th Aug 1847 aged 37 yrs.
Mary, wife of Thomas Harland, and daughter of the above who died 15th Oct 1851 aged 45 yrs. Interred at Norwood Cemetery, London.
Anne the wife of the above C Ellerton who died 21st July 1860 aged 75 yrs.
Elizabeth Ellerton, daughter of Christopher & Ann, died 23rd April 1821 aged 1 year.
Catherine Alderson, wife of D F Alderson of Marsh House, daughter of the above named died 5th Dec 1834 aged 31 yrs.

Wensley - Holy Trinity
The three gravestones are adjacent to eachother, close to the church itself :  
Elizabeth Ellerton of West Witton, who died 11th April 1823 aged 72 years.
Also Ann Tennant, niece of the above, who died 2nd February 1827 aged 55 years

Margaret, daughter of Thomas and Ann Kendray of Leyburn, who died 24th Nov 1777 aged 69 yrs.
Also Jane, wife to Edward Ellerton of West Witton and sister to Margaret Kendray, who died 18th June 1786 aged 74 yrs.

Edward Ellerton of West Witton who died 29th December 1790 aged 80 yrs.

York - St. Maurice's Churchyard
