Places associated with the Ellerton name The "Burke's Peerage World Book of Ellertons" (published in 1995) listed 580 Ellerton households - 350 in Great Britain, 130 in USA/Canada, and 100 in Australia/New Zealand. No other countries were enumerated, so the claim to be a "world" survey is probably grossly exaggerated - my records show that at least one Ellerton family moved to Portugal and another to Japan in the middle of the 19th Century, with several sons born to carry on the family name.
With a number of known omissions from the Burke's list (including my parents, two brothers, and two uncles!) my own estimate is that there are possibly around 1,000 Ellerton households worldwide - with over 3,000 individuals proudly bearing that surname!
