His father's will was proved at Leeds in 1736, and Matthew was bequethed specific items of furniture and the house occupied his deceased brother's widow and children, "also the dwelling house, calf garth, barn and meadow, copse and pasturing belonging to the same, and a yoking [a day's work of arable or ploughing land] in the high field called Hastla's Lands and half a yoking in the same field called Hondlands all with aforesaid dwelling house and lands purchased of Matthew and Mary Bearpark".
As his father was a freeholder at West Witton (4m SW of Leyburn), it seems plausible that Matthew also lived/worked there throughout his life. The NBI includes a Matthew buried there on 21/8/1742.
