The early ancestry of the Mesny family shown below is based
on handwritten "Notes on Pedigree" by John William Mesny (a nephew
of William Mesny the famous "adventurer", 1842-1919) in 1903. The notes are
reproduced in full on Jim Thompson's excellent website at
www.mesny.com .
The Mesny family settled in Alderney (Channel Iislands) around 400 years ago.
The first family member named in the Notes was Peter Mesny (baptisd in
1700), a clergyman. His son Jacques was a Master in the Royal Navy.
Guillaume Mesny (1787-1835) was an architect and builder - he was employed in
building the great breakwater of Cherbourg which is still standing today.
William Mesny (1812-1885) served in the Royal Militia, and later became a
Wesleyen preacher in England and France.
