Another researcher has suggested that this Matthew's father
was also a Matthew, and had siblings Joan (b.1697), Jon (1699), Elizabeth
(1704), Catherine (1708), Jane & Francis (1709), Mary (1711), and Edward (1712).
If anyone has data - wills etc. - to
support this theory please le me know.
The Grinton PR's show a marriage between "Mathew Ellerton of Dounholm &
Marjery Arrundle of this Parish" on 28/11/1716.
The Patrick Brompton PR's for 1722 reveal that a "Mathew Ellerton of Ewe Close House in the Parish of Downholme married Isabella Carter" in 1722. He is believed to have been married at least 3 times, but this has yet to be fully substantiated.
The Patrick Brompton PR's record the baptism of "Christopher, son of Matthew & Barbara Ellerton of Scotton" in 1725, while the Hipswell PR's for 4/1/1725 show "Christopher, son of Matthew Ellerton of Scotton". The Hipswell PR's also show the baptisms of Jane (June 1731) and Mathew (January 1732) daughter/son "of Mathew Ellerton of Sandbeck & Whitehouse" - possibly siblings of Christopher.
The 1739 will of "Matthew Ellerton of Scotton" provides details of his children: Matthew, Ann, Marjory and Christopher.
