Richard was probably the son of Edward [c1650-1734?], according to a baptism shown in the Downholme BT's in February 1678 (old calendar).
This line is significant due to Rev. Edward Ellerton (1771-1851), who studied at Magdalene College, Oxford, and was the joint founder of the "Pusey and Ellerton Scholarships". Also of interest are the links to the Whitelock family, with four marriages shown below. The male line of Ellertons ended on the death of Richard (1813-1873) who did not marry.
The MI's for Downholme provide an excellent reference to many of the names in this tree and the five table tombs dominate the west side of the churchyard.

I am
indebted to Judith Brown for providing some of the dates, background
information, and photographs relating to many of the individuals in this
"tree" (possibly the most notable, and wealthiest, of the Ellerton families in
Yorkshire).
