Which is the best whistle?

Fox 40 whistleFox 40 logo

Without doubt THE best whistle in the world - NOT the cheapest, but worth every penny!
And no, Compass Companion are not connected to Fox 40

Why the name?

Because it resembles a Fox's head when viewed from a certain angle (plus, the chap who invented it is called Foxcroft).
Features:
115 decibel output (warning, do NOT blow near anyone's ear!)
The louder you blow, the louder it sounds! If you blow it at full blast you'll need to put your hands over your ears!!!!
Pea-less whistle, this means no breathing-in all those dirty germs that breed on your whistle!
Strong plastic
Washable
Various bright colours - less likely to lose it!
Also available with a lanyard or wrist band

Why carry a whistle?
Without a whistle you are doomed in an accident situation. Your voice will not carry far - especially in the wind. In fact, after shouting for help for about 15 minutes your throat will become so dry and sore that you'll be unable to shout any more!
Mountain Bikers have even less chance of survival without a whistle. Think about it, bikers ride mostly in forest areas but in forest areas very few walkers (or anyone else for that matter) are around to come to your assistance. So, who is going to hear your feeble call for help? Be prepared, carry a whistle and ideally carry an Emergency Action Card as well.

International Distress Signal (more info)
Six quick successive whistle blasts (if no whistle, Six quick successive torch/camera flashes, or wave any available bright clothing). Then....
Wait one minute.
Repeat the signal every minute until help arrives
Notes: ignore all replies to your distress signal and continue to signal. This is important and helps those coming to you actually find you.
In the US and Canada the Signal is three whistle blasts etc.
