Probably the best one day clubman events in the Welsh calendar is the annual MWTRA Powys Enduro held this year on the 5th June. The start was as usual in the village of Carno - famous as the home of Laura Ashley - & the 150 mile single lap included a 50 mile section in the Dyfi forest. Unfortunately a week of rain & cold weather put a slight dampener on the event. The first test had to be ridden twice & it didn't take to kindly to the idea. Chris Bird (photo left) was flying but mud & grass under his sump clearly shows he had momentarily nested in one of the bogs that held up a lots of the clubmen & sportsmen. Chris was also one of several riders who ran low on petrol in the Dyfi but finished the stage (thanks to Chris Price) & went on to win the event. David Price was the runner up. The Powys is a round of the Welsh 4T championship. David Brick was the Best Expert 4T & Tony Gush was the runner up. Dave King was the Best Clubman 4T ahead of Stephen Morgan. David Jones won the Clubman class & Tudor Davies was the runner up. M Turner / G Yelland were the Best Expert sidecar team ahead of A Seward / S Rogers. From 11 starters only 2 Clubman sidecars finished. The Rowlands' won the class & Caerphilly MCC's Smith brothers were the runners up. In the Over 40s class Matt White won & John Cadwallader was the runner up & the Best Over 50 was Peter Lawry ahead of Jim Robinson. Although all the riders lost time on the going, the majority finished which is as it should be. DVD & Videos available from Frank Morgan, Malvern Lodge, Howey, LLANDRINDOD WELLS, Powys, LD1 5RE.
