I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith - we all enjoyed it, being the oldest book the group
has read so far, being published in 1947. read Amazon's review
The Famished Road by Ben Okri. Some of us found the book very worthwhile, others
loathed it, yet others ranged between the two. read Amazon's review
The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan - about Pearl, who has a secret from her
mother - who also has a secret past. The story is set in Shanghai in the 1920s, spans
World War II and then moves to America. According to the back jacket it covers innocence
and loss, tragedy and survival, hope, love and friendship. We all enjoyed the book but
found the main character irritating to varying degrees. read Amazon's review
Ladder of Years by Anne
Tyler - about a 40 year old mother of 3 who walks away from her family at the beach - and
just keeps on walking! Some of us empathised a great deal with this book - it gave us
plenty to talk about. read Amazon's review
Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson. Enjoyed read Amazon's review
Notes from a Small Island
The Pyramid by Ismail Kadare, Albania's foremost novelist - not a popular book but provided fuel for plenty of discussion. We discovered later that Albania is dotted with small pyramid-like shelters.
Time and Tide by Edna O'Brien. One of the least popular Brookworm Books read Amazon's review
Regeneration
The
Riders by Tim Winton. A really good read but WE WANTED
TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END! We were left hanging! read Amazon's review
