Brough Farmers' Market

The Farmers' Market is held on the third Saturday of every month, in the Memorial Hall in Brough (Brough-under-Stainmore  to give its full name), Cumbria.

It is almost unique among farmers' markets in that it is entirely under cover and thus protected from the weather, though there may be extra stalls outside, and our vegetable seller actually prefers to be outside.

The Farmers' Market is a Certified member of the FARMA (the National Farmers' Retail & Markets Association). It has been supported by Cumbria Community Foundation, North Pennines LEADER + and DEFRA, Co-operative Group Community Dividend Fund, Cumbria County Council, Eden District Council and Brough Parish Council.

Until September, but not after, there is an hourly free bus service to the market from Ravenstonedale via Kirkby Stephen.

Future dates are:--

2008:    September 20th   October 18th   November 15th   December 20th

The current opening hours are 9.30 am to 2.00 pm for the larger part of the year, but in winter (January, February and March) the closing time is 1.00 pm (an hour earlier).

If you cannot manage these dates, or if you like what you find in Brough and would like an opportunity to restock before our next market, you might also like to visit the Eden Valley's other Farmers' Markets at Orton (2nd Saturday in the month) or Penrith (3rd Tuesday) and in summer months (April to September) at Pooley Bridge (last Sunday in month).  Information on farmers' markets elsewhere in the United Kingdom can be found on The Foody's web pages.

Brough has a long history, which includes the castle which dominates the village and is open without charge to visitors.
