BROUGH FARMERS' MARKET

This page is updated about 2 weeks before the next market (but sometimes later), as soon as we are reasonably sure that the information will be accurate.

THE January MARKET

We would like to wish all our customers and stall holders a happy and prosperous New Year.

The next Farmers’ Market will be held on Saturday January 17th. It takes place in our usual venue of Brough Memorial Hall, from 9.30am to our winter closing time of 1.00pm.

STALLS

January has often been the month when some of our regular stall holders take a holiday, but the only one we know of this year is the venison stall. The places they have been to in past years have been very exotic in wild-life terms, but at the time of last market they had not decided where their 2009 break would take them.

The fresh trout stall who used to be regulars, (and who have added other smoked meat and fish using a number of different woods to the smoked trout we used to know) will be back again. They only stopped because there are too few of them to run the tea rooms and fishing lessons at the farm during their main season

We expect our plant stall to be indoors The current (very) frosty weather is not kind to house plants.

The Fairtrade organisation in Cumbria decided to discontinue their attendance at Farmers' Markets, which makes place for the extremely popular speciality hand-made chocolates to be one of our regulars

The essentials for life (and some luxuries) will continue to be available. These stalls will be selling their lamb, beef, pork, cheese, bread, cakes, jams, and vegetables, all grown or made locally, with nearly everything you could want for the kitchen!.  This is just a flavour of what is available, it’s impossible to list every single item – you really need to come and see for yourself. Everyone has their own favourite purchase. We continue to offer the possibility of having some really fantastic food almost on your doorstep.

Remember, all our stalls (except the vegetable stall) are indoors, under cover and thus independent of the weather
