I give you greetings.
My friends this evening, I would speak to you about the truth which you are seeking, about Spiritualism itself. Many have asked what is this thing, what is Spiritualism. Some will answer that it is a religion, others that all who believe are either creatures of the devil or rather lacking in brainpower. I would say to you, none of these is in essence the truth. Spiritualism is not so much a religion as a way of living; it is not so much a faith, a belief but a knowledge. You do not really believe in an abstract idea, you have each one of you the ability to prove for yourselves that life continues, that it is not ended at the point of death.
So many times it is said that those who believe are gullible, are misguided, are foolish or worse, they are self-deluded, fraudulent. Spiritualism like any other group attracts its eccentrics but they are not the core, the heart of it. Spiritualism is something that has existed, not merely from the beginning of this century but from the beginning of time, for always among men there have been those who are sensitive and are able to pick-up both the thought-waves and the sight of those who have gone before. There are those whose ears are open to hear; always there have been those mediums or go-betweens who can communicate between - for want of a better expression we may call - the two worlds. Oftentimes they have been honoured, they have been treated with respect and revered for their wisdom and for the wisdom which could be imparted through them and then the cycle moves on and they are persecuted as heretics. They are murdered, they are tortured, they are believed to be creatures of the darkness and not of the light. But still the power of spirit has remained and those who are dedicated to the love of the God Spirit have held steadfast and true to their own knowledge and their own belief.
Still today there are many within the orthodox religions who believe without question that all that comes through a medium must be of the devil. They're spoken of as creatures of evil, an anti-Christ and yet the majority of those who seek to serve you, serve the God Spirit with all the love they know how. Many of them have spent their whole lives, their whole being in pursuit of truth and have also sought to spread this to give hope and light and love to mankind. The light that comes from such beings and guides who help them cannot remotely be imagined to come from the power of evil. And yet too I must say, there are those within your movement who are gullible, who accept whatever they are given without thought, without question. There are too, mediums whose honesty could be called into question but they are not those of whom we speak. Spiritualism today has great need of philosophy, it has need of the young, the young who will become inspired by the word of spirit. You have indeed progressed far, you have become accepted by many; now it is time, not only to spread this truth but to improve the standard within your own movement, to sift-out the wheat from the chaff so that none may point the finger in scorn, saying who could believe this, the talk is but foolish, the messages are trite. We are in need, not so much of showmanship but of those who give only truth and who hold to that truth no matter what. We need those who will show by the lives they lead and the courage with which they face adversity and ridicule, that what they have is worth having, is worth learning about, worth investigating. Never seek merely to accept what you are told, each one of you must find within yourselves the proof that our words and our message are true. What is truth? This is a question asked many, many times.
Truth comes only from the God Spirit, from awareness of God, from the stillness within your soul where the voice of God only may be heard. We can tell you of truth, clairvoyance can give you evidence but only you within your own hearts and with your own minds can learn to accept that knowledge and wisdom which comes from God alone. The purpose of our spiritual journey is to become closer and closer to the God Spirit, to become aware, to become at one and being at one with God, to be at one with all mankind, not only with mankind but with all creation. Accept my friends that life is difficult, life is a testing ground, it is a stage whereon you play out incarnation but as the curtain falls then real life begins, life in the world of spirit. You journey on and on unfolding as you go the power within your spirit. Each of you is individual, each of you has your own path of progress. Together, those who believe, those who have learned may come what you call today Spiritualists, determined each of you that the factions within your movement will end. For one of the laws of God is that harmony shall reign. Do not allow this way of living, this truth which you have found to become soiled and damaged by petty squabbles and misunderstanding. There should be room within your belief for all ways of thought.
Spiritualism takes not account of colour, of culture, of age, even of understanding, for you are made-up from many walks of life, from many levels of ignorance, of education, of understanding. But if you desire to progress spiritually, then you must accept your brethren for what they are. If some among you choose to believe and still in some measure to follow orthodoxy, that does not lessen their knowledge or their belief, remember there are many roads to the kingdom of God. Yours, mine are not the only ones, therefore take heart, open your minds and let in the light, the light of God and tolerance for all creatures. Let Spiritualism develop as it should into an all-embracing belief, for the truth cannot harm anyone. And the continuity of life is not a faith nor a belief but a fact. We see in the time to come a great awakening within mankind; be certain then that you are ready to accept all those who will come to you, seeking your knowledge, seeking your truth. Remember the words of the Nazarene who said: ‘feed my sheep', feed then the hungry minds and let none turn away empty. Make sure that your knowledge is sound and true, be ready always to share, for by sharing thus you shall gain. It is given to each of you to know truth, but truth is not for self alone, it is the right of all mankind. Never forget that, never deny it. Let each of you determine that the light you give shall be a great light and that the awakening of earth shall be your reward.
Towards Understanding
Question. May I ask, are their practical steps we can all take on a daily basis which would help to increase our understanding and our ability to love.
Practical steps sounds very difficult. It is so often overlooked that it is the trivial, the small things, the things which you tend to by-pass which help you to gain understanding and spiritual awareness. The first step to becoming spiritually awakened and aware is self-discipline and that the most difficult person of all to discipline is oneself. Determine that you will all throughout a given period of time open your minds to the minds of others. That you will be aware of their needs, that you will not make the mistake that of seeing one bereaved or suffering and perhaps because of embarrassment, not knowing what to say, turning aside. So often we do not see or are unaware of the pain within another. It is difficult, I know, sometimes to find the right expression but always those who seek to comfort will be aided in doing so. In lesser ways we can open ourselves, a smile even to a stranger, look around you, look at the earth plane, be aware of its beauty and aware of the souls, the spirit, the light that created it. Even the meanest of creatures upon earth pertain that spirit of life and should be treated with reverence.
Try to feel that for a few moments each you will relax your body, you will allow your mind to free itself of the cares of the day and feel as though you were drawing-up from a well, not water but love. Drawing-up out of your very being and send it forth and a stream of light, a stream of warmth which flows from you, becomes a puddle, then a pool, then a lake, then a river, rushing forth in flood, encompassing the whole earth and all that dwells upon it. Imagine the earth plane, visualize its contours, the countries of which it is made and imagine your love, your truth spreading over each one in turn. Only by giving-out your thought of love and of healing, will you expand your own soul, your own capacity not only for further giving but for receiving. The soul expands and opens to the power of the God Spirit as a flower opens to the light of the sun. You must imagine this power in order to draw it to you, to feel it, to know it, to become invincible to the ills of earth, to become yourself, a sword of light and a shield of understanding. Let each one with whom you come into contact feel this power of your love, let your lives be filled with it, let no man turn you away from it, for it is this love which creates for you the inner tranquillity, the peace of God which passes all understanding. It is a peace which will shield you against all danger, against all fear, against all darkness. For the inner stillness once achieved can never be broken. It is there for all time and it is something which each and every one of you can acquire.
Halls of Learning
Question. I would like to know the name of our teacher here this evening and could you give me any information about the halls of learning.
My name my friend is Mentor. The halls of learning are likened perhaps to the universities which you have upon earth. They are places where instruction is given, instruction just as in your universities, on many, many subjects. There are those who teach the technicalities of returning to earth. Those who teach how to communicate, how to build for instance, the ectoplasm which we use to create direct voice and materialization. There are teachers who help those who are about to return to earth in order to become instruments for those of us who wish to help and to teach. There are teachers from the much higher realms who instruct upon the laws of the God Spirit the various theologies of the differing religions upon earth. Remember on this side of life there are as many schools of thought, if not more as there are on earth. This is one reason why we tell you so often never accept what you hear through a medium or from a guide without question. Never accept what to you is illogical. If a guide or a medium is genuine they will not mind, if not an argument, a difference of opinion. Do you understand?
You see, as I said there are many roads to the God Spirit. None of us can say ours is the only way, for it is not. Therefore within the halls of learning there are many theories and there are many, many various teachings. We who surround this medium follow a similar pattern of teaching, it is the way we have chosen. There are others who teach what is basically the same idea but in another way. We have chosen always to try to keep our teaching simple and on a level that all can understand, both those of you who are spiritually advanced and those who are at the beginning of their road. What is the use of complicating the word of the God Spirit, which is simplicity itself, by complicated theological arguments, by turning to metaphysics. It may sound very impressive but it tells no more truth, than the simple word of the parable of the Nazarene. This teaching he came to earth to give, something which he continues to give on this side of life, just as do the various Buddhists and other great teachers who have come to this earth. All have their courts in the halls of learning and when you come to this side of life you may well be privileged to hear them speak. There are halls in which we who return to earth, learn how to project ourselves, how to use the voice of a medium, of a direct voice. We learn the art of what my brother Marcus would call oration.
I will digress a little and say that today among many of your mediums this art is lacking. Not those who are entranced but those who give their own addresses. Some of them are excellent but others could learn much of the power of speech, the way to speak, the way to project the voice; to make others listen rather than watch them. We learn much of this, we try to learn how to give the message, how to make it tell. You see we cannot force you into any one course of action, even though we may see man running to disaster. We may only advise, only try to influence, we can neither prevent nor initiate disaster and neither can the God Spirit. We try, all of us, to learn how to use words, how to use thoughts that will stimulate the minds of those who listen. It will make them initiate their own action, that hopefully such a beginning will prompt a chain reaction which will spread throughout the earth plane. We learn also how to heal both the mind and the body of men and those who are newly coming here learn if they are not old in spirit, the ways of progress. I would stress that such education within the halls of learning is again entirely voluntary. None is compelled to learn, if they prefer to remain in ignorance, then their own lack of progress has nothing to do with anyone else but entirely their own responsibility. There is much to be learned, much to be taught. No soul who seeks truth will ever go unanswered. Those who have taught upon earth, the great and wise philosophers are numbered among those who give their truth in turn. All branches of learning, all language, all philosophy is there for those who seek it.
Departure of the Spirit
Question. Has the body got a life of its own apart from the spirit or is it completely dead when the spirit leaves.
Oh yes.
Further question. What about the cells.
There is life within each cell, how can I explain it, let me think. Each cell of life contains spirit but that spirit at the moment of death leaves. It will leave the physical body because it attaches itself then to the etheric body, what you call the astral body. Can you follow me? If you can imagine, imagine the spirit as one whole being. Now try to realize that the human body is made-up - it is not solid, as you see it - it is made-up of a mass of vibrating organisms; it is made-up of millions and millions of cells. each containing spirit. Do you follow? There are millions and millions of particles of spirit which make-up the spirit itself. Therefore when used, what is left is nothing. This is why the guide of my medi’s father – Medicine man - said always, speaking merely from the health point of view, not my medi nor mine, that to eat flesh was a bad thing. He said: 'the moment life has left that body, it decays', even though meat may appear to you to be fresh, yet it is decayed because the spirit has left. Therefore he said: ‘it is poison to the human body'.
Does Spiritual Teaching Change?
Question. Do you give the same teachings now as you did when you were last on earth.
It is all the time improving, the light, the dawn . . . progress which to you may seem slow is nevertheless a certain progress. It is progress which is founded, as one would say, upon rock. You speak of the teaching which I gave when upon earth. One speaks to the best of one's ability and a limit of one's knowledge. Basically yes, because what I was able to teach on earth was founded on truth, truth to which I came through great difficulty. The way in which I would now pass it or give it out would perhaps be somewhat different but the message would be the same. I followed the Nazarene, I know that within the Spiritualist movement today there are many who say, one cannot be Christian and a Spiritualist; for myself I would say, this is untrue. One perhaps cannot follow orthodox Christianity and Spiritualism but can follow what the Nazarene taught and Spiritualism. I tell you, this man was one of the finest mediums in every sense of the word that there has ever been upon this earth. And this is what earned him his notoriety. He taught as we teach, love, love of God, love of your fellow beings, he taught compassion, healing, light and life eternal. He taught of the love of God rather than the fear of God. He taught, he showed by his light that love meant sacrifice and pain and also a great and wonderful joy, he lifted-up the minds of men from the darkness in which they dwelt, he gave them hope, he gave them his healing, not only of the body but of the mind and of the spirit. He gave to the slaves courage and freedom, for he taught that no man can enslave the soul of another, the body yes but the mind and the spirit are free.
This does not conflict with any Spiritualist belief, what does conflict is what has been built-up around it. I tell you there is no reason why anyone with knowledge of Spiritualism should not appreciate and follow the light of Jesus. He never claimed to be the son of God, it was his followers who made him a God, not he. This happens so often to so many who neither wish nor seek deification, so often man cannot accept the words of truth which come from a fellow being, they have to be glorified, they have to be draped in ritual, in magic, in vestments. Jesus had none of these; he was a man and a medium and that is all.
Scarcity of Mediums
Question. Is the spirit world planning to have more physical mediums on the earth than have been, at least in America they are very rare, for I don't know the situation in this country.
They are very rare throughout the earth plane my brother. We of course would like to see more of this phenomena but I think I am right in saying that the speed of your life today is part of the reason for their lack. It takes patience and patience and more patience to develop true physical mediumship and there are very few among you today who are willing to devote that amount of time. This too is the reason for the decline in the standards of mediumship. So often someone is told by a clairvoyant or by some medium, you have psychic power, you could be healing, clairvoyant or whatever the gift may be. The medium may have given this message in good faith but the recipients see themselves upon a platform, whether it be through a sense, through a need of personal glorification, or whether they genuinely have the desire to help mankind matters not, they do not stop to think. Now we have said many times to all would be mediums, what is necessary is first to develop your own spiritual awareness, your own spirituality, your own spiritual knowledge and then develop the psychic power.
I quote again the Nazarene who said: ‘Seek ye first the Kingdom of God', in other words awareness of spirit, land all things shall be added-up to you'. Too often it is the other way around. The uninitiated seek first to develop the psychic power but that unless it is based on spirituality is not the right way. They do not realize that in opening the door they open to any. Now one who understands the power of spirit and whose development is based upon knowledge will know the difference; because a medium - physical or otherwise - who is fully developed and truly spiritually aware will of themselves deny entry, deny a hearing, deny sight of anything which comes from the darker side of the spirit world.
The need truly to develop, the desire to serve, to serve the God Spirit, not as you will but as the spirit wills; to say, Father I am here, I am your servant, use me therefore as you will. You have imbued me with light and that light I will return. This is the way to service, this is the way to mediumship. Each one of us to a certain degree has psychic power within us, we develop if we are in truth according to the will of God. There are many who say, I wish to heal, I wish to speak, I wish to see; that is not the way. Open yourselves, offer yourselves and you will be shown the way of service. If one who desires to develop mediumship would begin in this way and accept what was given, then the standard would be raised for the motivation would be correct and in time there will be, hopefully more and more physical mediums but it will only come through patience and a true desire to serve.
Spiritual Groups
Question. Could you possibly give us any information on group souls, or is there such a thing.
Oh yes, each of us is part of a group. When you say is there such a thing; we split, in this world of ours into groups, just as perhaps upon earth mankind is, split into families or tribes, do you understand? Now generally speaking, those who form a group are of similar inclinations, in other words they have chosen a similar belief, a similar way, path of progress. For it is essential within a group that there is a harmony, that does mean that every soul incorporated within it must think exactly alike, that would be dull in the extreme and no one would gain from another but they must be moving in a similar direction. Now there are on this side those who desire to work their way without returning again to earth, they too are part of a group but what happens within the group soul is that each soul within it is able to draw from it and gain from it the experience of the others making up that group. This means that whenever one returns to earth, whatever is gained, learned or experienced, on that souls return, is as it were put into the communal fund of ideas. A group soul through its many members has experienced every form of life upon earth, they have come through many incarnations, many different facets of life and as you know everything that ever happens to you throughout your lives is recorded within yourself and within the akashic record. All that knowledge from every one within the group is available to each member of the group should they so desire it. The aim is to help each other to progress along the spiritual pathway, yet even though you work as a group, each retains its individuality. That is something you do not lose, at least not within our knowledge.
We have been asked what ultimately happens to us and I must say with my brothers who sometimes speak with you, in truth we do not know. We can only theorise because beyond the highest sphere none has come to tell us but we believe that finally we are reabsorbed into the cosmic mind which is indeed the Spirit of Light whom we all know as God. But this I will stress is theory, no one if they are honest can tell you for certain.
Doubtful Methuselahs
Question. Good evening Mentor. I heard recently on a radio programme a psychic was talking about some friends of hers had been to India and they had heard about three Indians who are over a thousand years old. Now it seems a bit farfetched to me and I wondered if you could enlighten us as to whether it is true and if it is true, what would be the purpose of such a long life.
I would not imagine my brother that it is so. It is something which I will with pleasure investigate but I would say this, that there have from time to time been reports of such longevity in various eastern countries. What I would say to you is that their ways, their methods of counting are not perhaps as accurate as your own. One finds normally that it is in some remote hill village where nothing can be checked, like world events; convenient? They are nearly always peasants and I do not speak in a derogatory way but what I mean is, they are not those who would have knowledge of events which could be analyzed and checked. I will, I promise you investigate and I will perhaps pass on a message for you when we meet soon.
More on Twin Souls
Question. Do we all have a soul-mate and if so could you give me any information. [See also Chapter 2].
I think you mean perhaps a twin-soul, do you not?
Yes, I do.
Yes my brother, each one of us has our other half as it were but not necessarily do they incarnate at the same time. This relationship is something which is quite unique, if you are on earth at the same time as your twin-soul and you meet with them, there is an instant affinity. Quite different from any love, or any friendship or any relationship that you have ever had with another being. Remember this twin-soul would probably have been with you in many incarnations and there are times when you would have been alone and so will the other half. Do not think either that this other half of yourself as it were is necessarily of the opposite sex. Each of you if you have returned through reincarnation, will have had incarnations in both male and female form. You may have been with your twin-soul, it can be a mother and child relationship, husband and wife. friend. Do you follow? I would say too in passing that a truly advanced soul will never belittle the opposite sex because they will understand the mind, the soul of both man and woman. They have been both, they have known both joy and sorrow in both forms of life. There are of course, psychological differences because of the physical differences of the body you inhabit but the soul itself, the spirit is both male and female and therefore takes sides with neither.
Epilogue
My friends, I thank you all most sincerely for your time and for your questions and I hope that the answers will prove satisfactory. Now I will ask you to join me in a prayer to God our Father.
O God Spirit, Thou who has known man from the dawn of time, let him now learn of Thy will, of Thy truth and of Thy light. Let each one here take with them an awareness of Thee and of Thy presence, let each one here seek to hear Thy voice, to give forth Thy message and to fulfil Thy purpose. Let the light of Thy presence be with them to guide them, let Thy hand uphold them and Thy footsteps show them the way. O Father, let each one carry within themselves the knowledge of Thy love and of Thy truth. May the power of Thy healing, may the strength of Thy love lift them out of the daily rut into the realms of Thy kingdom. That they may find peace and tranquillity in their hearts, that the troubles and the tribulations of daily life may wash over them, that Thy stillness may be with them, that they may indeed prove a haven of rest for all who have trouble and misunderstanding. Father may Thy light and Thy blessing spread throughout this earth and may Thy kingdom be made manifest in the hearts of these Thy children and in the earth for all to see.
