My friends, from the beginning of earth's existence, there has been life in one. form or another and that life has come to a physical end and proceeded along the pathway of learning. Life after death has always been. Throughout the ages there have been many who have believed - no, not believed, but known - this to be so and others who believed that life ends with the physical death of the body. We for many years have striven to give to mankind proof. In what for one person is indisputable proof, means nothing at all to another. I can say to you now that albeit gradually, for men of science are coming around to the knowledge that there is at least something after physical death. There have been in recent years many accounts of those who have to all intents died and then have been brought back to physical life and the accounts in almost every case are very similar. This at last has set the scientific mind in the direction of belief, of proof, rather than of disproof. In the time to come it will become more and more apparent that you who already have discovered this knowledge are not cracked, not crazy, not gullible but the true bearers of truth, of knowledge. For many many it has been, this movement, this religion, something to be ridiculed, to be mocked at, to be believed only by those who needed the prop of life after death in order to face death. Death is not to be feared, it is merely a passing into another sphere of existence and those who have come back from the so-called death have been able to confirm it.We meant those who had already died, our friends, our relatives, but what has begun to convince the men of science is that there have been reports of meeting with those whom they had not known had passed. It seems to us on this side of life such a very strange attitude among those upon earth, to doubt that life continues, for if it ends as so many still choose to believe then what indeed is the point of life upon earth at all. The continuity of life is fact and not fiction. But what you must realize is that this life, this continuity is not confined to mankind alone but to all forms of life upon earth, for all have their pathway to make, all need to progress, to develop the power of the God Spirit which lies within them. The voice of God gives to man an inner understanding, the power to overcome the obstacles of life, the power to reason, the power to be curious, to seek to discover why and where and how life is lived upon this earth. I seems again strange to doubt when there is so much evidence surrounding, evidence that behind this seemingly haphazard existence there is a plan, there is purpose, there is a mind, not a being, not a form like man himself, but a mind which controls the whole universe of which you yourselves are a part.
The cosmic mind which controls all things and yet allows you the freewill to develop as you will, to live your lives as you will. For whether you know or do not, whether you accept or do not, that God is and that life is continuing, yet still you have the freewill to decide your own action and you carry the responsibility for that action. This is one of the greatest laws of the God Spirit and it extends not only throughout the earth, but throughout the universe, wherever there is life there is responsibility. The responsibility is yours, to accept or to deny the existence of God as you choose, to believe or life continues. But my friends, not very many years ago those who would perhaps disbelieve that have predicted the likelihood of the technological advances which you know today, would have been laughed to scorn. Radio; voices coming out of the air, pictures; made far away and yet seen in your own home, the opportunity to speak with those in other lands, vehicles which moved apparently of their own volition, all these things would have appeared to be impossible, yet you accept them with no doubt, with no question, they are a part of your life. Why then should there be such a question mark over the continuity of existence. You are willing to accept so many things on trust, yet the thing which is more important than all the rest, the knowledge which could give peace to this earth plane, tranquillity to the troubled In mind, this, this great gift of the God Spirit you choose so often to doubt. Those who believe are not gullible, for they have proven for themselves so that it becomes not a belief but a surety, a knowledge, something which within yourselves you know without question. I am alive and I will always remain alive, that part of me which is immortal. This you can say to yourselves no matter how others may laugh, how they may scorn, how they may take you for one without wits, yet inside yourselves you have that greatest gift of all, the peace of God which does indeed pass all understanding.
Organized Religion
Question. I wonder if you could tell me when organized religion started to deviate from our spiritual beliefs, because it would appear to me that a lot of problems have occurred because of religion.
Well my brother, to begin with, man created not God, not the one mind who created all, not God but gods. Primitive man could not conceive as you now are able to today, of anything which could create earth but yet be without form and so began the gods and because many of these primitive people were cannibalistic they believed that the gods ate the spirits of men and could be appeased only by sacrifice and from this early belief stems most of the great saviour god religions; the belief that God or the gods demanded sacrifice of mankind. Even today in parts of your earth human sacrifice is offered to the gods. There are still primitive tribes deep in the jungles of your land and still these monstrosities occur. Gradually man progressed from offering human sacrifice to offering animals. I should not say progressed, for in the eyes of God all life is sacred, all life is one. But around these sacrificial offerings built-up the belief that in suffering man became more spiritual. This is not the law of God, the God Spirit desires all both to love and to be loved, to live in harmony and unity together, but as the sacrificial religions built-up, so too did the priesthood. I would say to you it is not religion, which basically means belief in God and worship of God, that is at fault, it is the priests who make a living from it and this applies to, almost all the orthodox religions.
The priesthood does not desire that man should realize his own divinity, should realize that he is capable, each one of you as an individual is capable of communication with that Spirit of Life which lies within you. If each one of you truly realized your own divinity, your own atonement with God, then neither priest nor medium would any longer be necessary and I would say to you that the teachers that have come to this earth, those who have now been made into leaders of the orthodox religions, all if you listened to them, taught atonement with, God. Taught the Motherhood, the Fatherhood, the Brotherhood of the God Spirit, that each and every one is a child of God. It is the followers of those great teachers who have destroyed in fact their teaching. They need the ritual surrounding the sacrifice, surrounding the ancient religions and so they covered-up the simplicity of truth, but truth in the beginning is the foundation of all religions. Gradually as the kingdom of God becomes manifest upon this earth so will all the ritual, all the unnecessary trappings be paired away and mankind will once more learn to be at one with nature and at one with God.
Unleavened Bread
[Question. Something about unleavened bread and the type of flour used].
It was very similar to the way bread was made in the land of Egypt. It was not often leavened bread. The flower would have been ground from wheat, rye, from the grains that you know today. Often the housewives would obtain as it was and grind it themselves between two stones. It would have been a wholemeal type of flour. Yeast was obtainable, but it was difficult, so that the bread usually came in flat cakes. A much more difficult undertaking than your culinary arts today. For the women in ancient times had none of the assistance; everything needed to be prepared from the beginning.
Further question. And it was cooked every day.
It would be.
And it was made with water?
Water or the milk of goats was used in Palestine extensively, as it was in Egypt.
Future Difficulties
Question. We are told we are coming into a very difficult period in earth's history, before we go into the golden age. How long will this difficult period last.
That very much depends upon mankind. Nothing upon this earth is set. Do you understand? Because each of you as individuals, each of you as a nation has freewill. Whatever the plan that may be made on our side of life, all too often mankind is very capable of upsetting them. We do not predetermine, we do see in the time ahead, difficulty because there is upon the earth upheaval, there are changes, not in the physical part of your earth plane, but among you as human beings. There are changes in your governments, in your political ways of thinking. Many of the ancient tyrannies are moving away. They are being swept away by the realization within mankind that freedom is your birthright, the freedom to choose and not to be directed. Mankind is in a word, coming to adulthood; you are casting off the restraints of childhood. Among your younger people there is the desire for knowledge, spiritual knowledge and understanding. This eventually will bring harmony and peace, but wherever there is change, there is bound to be a certain amount of rancour. For the old order does not like being overthrown and very often when new ways of thought take the pla6'e of established government there are still the birth pangs, for the old ways are not always as bad as one imagines. Change yes, but not without thought, not without a design for living, a plan for the future and before governments and dictators are overthrown, one must be sure that those who take over have not only the knowledge but the wisdom to rule well.
All these things are happening upon earth, look around you and you can see, but there is already a greater desire for unity. The knowledge that you can work together to bring peace to earth, that those of different cultures, of different nations, different beliefs, can yet learn tolerance and be at one. Once this is established, then indeed will come what you choose to term the golden age; the manifestation of the God Spirit's kingdom, which if you but knew it, lies within the hearts of each one of you. You have the power here and now to bring this unity to earth, but it does need a concerted effort by all mankind. We on this side do not measure time and therefore I find it very difficult to forecast a limit to the upheaval. All we can say is that what in years gone by looked far far distant, now is shining as a light before us. It beckons you upon earth; it is the dawn of what you will call a new age.
Karma
Question. Is there some special karma attached to those who suffer terrible, illnesses such as motor neurone disease.
Not in particular my brother, no. It is a disease which has developed over the years as have so many which you suffer today, because man has lost touch with his origins, lost touch with nature. You do not realize how very large a part the environment in which you live and work and spend your leisure time has upon your physical body. You know, all of you how very serious has been the effect of your chemicals upon this earth. The misuse of earth, the misuse of the physical body over many many years, this has produced not only this disease but many of the other fearful things which you suffer today. That one particular person should suffer is not as you may put it, ordained. Sometimes it is connected with hereditary problems, sometimes truly that one has desired for some particular reason to come upon the earth and suffer in a particular way. Life and karma are very complex issues.
Too often those who accept karma and reincarnation believe that the soul is sent back to earth as a punishment, but this is not so. Karma is something which you build-up throughout your lives and for the benefit of those who have not heard us before, I will say to you, on this side of life there is no punishment, there is no judgement. Each one of you is your own judge, for you and you alone are responsible for your actions. We do not say you must atone for such and such a deed, but those who desire to progress will come to this realization by themselves. There may be much you regret throughout your lives; how you bring that into balance within your karma is entirely your own affair. There are many who feel that because they have inflicted physical suffering upon another being during a life upon earth, that they in atonement must themselves suffer and therefore they choose an environment, a physical body which will satisfy this need for suffering. Do you understand? But it is not something which is put upon them, which they are forced to undergo.
I would say to you that with disease, with the disease you call AIDS, with cancerous growths and many other very serious illnesses upon earth, the time will come when your physicians seek to work with us in the world of spirit and then and then only will lasting cures be discovered. For where as now there is untold suffering incurred in the research, in the time to come men win realize the futility of this and that by working together with the healers in spirit - those who have eyes to see within the body - cures will be discovered.
In What Form Do You See Us?
Question. When you come through your medium to talk with us, in what form do you see us. Do you see us in physical form or in some spirit shape or form. [See also Chapter 6].
That depends my brother upon many things. The atmosphere surrounding earth, the atmosphere among yourselves, the physical wellbeing or otherwise of our medium. Very often yes, we do see you as human beings as you are. We see also the light or the darkness surrounding you, but at other times it is more difficult, because you know weather conditions and the conditions of war, worry and so on affect our coming. And when the earth is, shall we say, extra dark, hidden, then we find it more difficult to see you in form, but we are aware of the light. emanating from any one particular person.
Further question. Do you see some of us with bright light and some of us with dim light.
Exactly, exactly so. We see also not merely the light but the aura which tells us the trend of your thinking, your way of love and your physical wellbeing or otherwise. It all is there to be seen, but it does need knowledge to interpret correctly. I have heard people say, such and such a colour within an aura means so and so, but what they are not aware is that the depth of colour, the shade of colour all mean different things. One needs a great deal of knowledge to correctly interpret the meaning of an aura.
Further question. Usually when I leave here after a lecture, I feel a lot better physically, is that because our loved ones on the other side come nearer to us.
Well yes, in some measure, but also there is a great build-up of power here and just sitting quietly enables the rays of healing to penetrate. One may not always need consciously to be aware of healing. What many do not understand is that, whether you are aware of us or no, we exist, we are with you, we are aware of you and of your needs, of your joy and of your sorrow. No one among you ever need feel alone, for there are a host of friends and loved ones on this side of life, many whom you may not even have known, but who are in some way connected with you. You may not be aware, but love is there and God is there always for all mankind.
Choices
Question. If everything is upset, how can things be predicted.
When you say this, it is a question we have been many times asked. Now if you have a choice of many paths and at the end of each path there is a goal, there is an ending, there is a place, there is a thing, there is something; I speak now in a physical way. A path always leads somewhere, does it not? What we can see is the physical or the spiritual pathways that you had before you or that are likely to be placed before you. And we can say, looking into your mind, into your intentions, we can be fairly certain of the path you will take and we can see the. goal, the end of that path, but what you must remember is that the choice of path is yours. So that you could upset any prediction merely by changing your pathway, changing your mind. There is nothing that cannot be changed. I could say to you, if you walk from this room now and walk straight across the street without looking, there is a very good chance that an oncoming vehicle will send you to meet us. [Laughter]. But whether you go through this door, whether you look or do not is your choice. There is nothing which is inevitable, except that whichever road you take it will eventually lead to the world of spirit. For as surely as you were born into this earth, as surely must you leave it, but in between there are very many choices. You see, try to think with logic, one of the greatest laws of the God Spirit is that you shall reap that which you sow. In other words, personal responsibility. Now if as many choose to believe, all was controlled by fate, that your destiny was written in the stars, how then could you be held responsible either for the good you do or the evil. Yet responsible you are because you and you alone have chosen your pathway. The God Spirit does not direct it, but neither my friends do we. Though many and often are the times when we may desire to do so, to prevent suffering, to prevent warfare but we cannot interfere. We can only advise and only then if we are asked to do so. We can try to impinge our thoughts upon your own, but cannot ever compel you to do as either we or the God Spirit wishes.
Time
Question. This question of time in the spirit world confuses me a lot. I gather that you have no yesterday or tomorrow, everything is now. I have always wondered how is it you know when to come and talk to us.
By the mind, I suppose of our medium, who says always, oh, I hope they cannot let me down, someone must come. This I may tell you is her greatest dread, that she will sit here and none of us will arrive. [Laughter]. But the thoughts are sent and on this we centre and come. There is no need of time, for we communicate by thought and when we know we are needed, when the thought is sent forth, we are here. You see because time does not exist, neither does travel; very difficult I know to realize this when you are in the physical. I believe it was my brother who once said when asked a question about the universe, that to begin to comprehend the universe, one must first realize its complete incomprehensibility. The mind of man is not able to encompass, it is the physical restriction of the mind. The spirit can comprehend, but not the brain, the brain remains physical.
You see we too can look back, we can look back to previous lives, we can look back throughout what you call history, but time measured in minutes, in hours, in days, in months, in years as such we do not, the conception is far greater. Time now is what is important, to look back, to what we have all evolved from gives us a greater understanding of what we are today, now. What is wrong is to live always either behind or in front. Too many live, you had a song many years ago which said: 'It's a lovely day tomorrow', but you cannot live in that manner, you cannot live always in the future or always in the past. The time to be is now, this moment. For again, you quote Jesus, he taught that no man can know the hour of his parting and my brother Crazyhorse, Manyomin would ten you that his people always offered their prayer to the morning: ‘Today is a good day to live, but a good day also to die'. So you must be prepared always to live and enjoy every moment of now. I know because you have not the facility, many of you have not the facility of being able to communicate by thought alone, it therefore is necessary to measure your time, otherwise life upon earth would be chaotic, even more chaotic than it is at present.
Absent Healing
Question. Could you tell me what happens with absent healing please.
Well, you have an illustration, it is a remote control. You are able at the touch of a switch to hear voices which are speaking many many miles away, you are able to see pictures projected upon a screen. What we use in healing are rays, rays which are very often manufactured from music, from colour and from the power and the love which you send forth. In absent healing those rays reach out, they are used in the same way as when we do contact healing, but it is not as mysterious as it appears. For radio waves reach over the whole earth plane, so then do the waves of healing.
Sudden Death
Question. The sort of life we live today, with fast cars, bigger trains, bigger planes, space craft; many of us are going to be thrown into the spirit world by accident, whether or not we want to go. Is there a first aid that we need to do in the event that we find ourselves instantly in the spirit world. Could we find ourselves in the spirit world wandering around not knowing how to contact our loved ones.
There would always be those friends to meet you. Those of you who know that life continues would not find it such a dreadful shock. Do you understand? Those with who we had great difficulty are those who had no belief and even more so those who believe that at the point of death they will find themselves in purgatory. It is very difficult to convince such as these that they have in fact left the physical world behind them. Very often we need the help of you people upon earth either in your sleep or in rescue circles, because being still on the earth you are in a sense much closer to those who are yet bound to earth. But, those of you who had knowledge of the world of spirit, who are as you have said thrown violently into it should try to concentrate your thoughts, because you will realize instantly what has happened. Concentrate your thoughts on those who love you and who very possibly are far more shocked than you yourself, they do need a great deal of help and understanding. Hopefully those surrounding yourselves will also have your knowledge and therefore be able to rebound from the shock and will be sending their thoughts in turn towards you.
Epilogue
My friends, once again it is with great pleasure that I come to you, it is always exhilarating to listen to your questions and hopefully to answer them. We have here on this side - I will just refer to the last question - a lady who was herself rescued, not through violent death but because she was very much earthbound. She comes from a part of your country in this city of London and she is perhaps one who my medium will never allow to speak to you [laughter] because her, language relates to her surroundings, but nevertheless she is a great and generous soul and spends her time upon this side of life helping those who are confused at the point of return to spirit. She has as my medi and John will tell you what she calls her rolling-pin for those who are reluctant. But one whom I know many have found a joy and a comfort to behold. I will close with a prayer to the God Spirit, who is after all the Creator of all life and the psyche which runs through all religions.
O Father, Thou who art Creator of all, Thou who knowest all our thoughts, all our troubles, all our doubts, be with these Thy children this night. Give to them strength understanding and wisdom, let their minds turn ever towards Thee and towards Thy will. Let the power of Thy presence uplift them, ennoble them and enable them to fulfil all the tasks which they have undertaken. Father give them strength in time of weakness, give them tranquillity of mind amongst the troubles of this earth plane and Father be Thou to the leaders of all the nations of earth, whether they dwell in darkness or in light. Let Thy mind be to them a beacon and let those of the darkness turn once more into the light, let all tyranny cease upon this earth, that there shall be no more war, no more intolerance. That an shall dwell in peace one with the other, knowing that in doing so they follow Thy will and make manifest Thy kingdom for all time.
