Ones that got away

John CRANE married Ann CRANE abt. 1655 in Foxton.
Is this the son of John CRANE and Mary WRAGG baptised 13 Jan 1632 All Saints, Loughborough ? Loughborough is a long way from Foxton.
Is his wife really called Ann CRANE or did the parson simply use the same surname?

John MORRIS c: 15 Jan 1775 Ashby Magna – The Poor Book for Ashby Magna parish dated 22nd Oct 1799 shows £10 given by John Morris to Martha Willey in consideration of her bearing his illegitimate child John Morris WILLEY. They were never married.

I have traced his baptism to William MORRIS and Ann LENTON, but have failed to identify and further information on William MORRIS. Can anyone help with this ?

The greatest mystery of them all is a family rumour that one Edmond Crane started making bicycles with a chap called William Morris, later Lord Nuffield. The company was supposed to have been Hercules Cycles. The story goes that when Bill asked Edmond to go into car manufacturing with him, Edmond replied “There’s no future in that, Bill. I’m sticking with bicycles!”
Anyone who can throw any light on this one will be warmly welcomed…
