Provence in April.

Southern France in its Springtime.

The region of Provence lies within a boundary which can be described as being from Orange, south to the Mediterranean and from the Carmargue in the west to the Italian border.

It was the land of the painters Paul Cezanne and Vincent van Gough and is still as beautiful as ever it was painted. Our aim was to pay a visit at a time of year when the temperature would be bearable. We didn't know what we might see in the way of colours and we were not too sure about travel time. After a 2 day tow from Calais, using the auto route (except between St. Quentin and Dijon, where we took the most direct RN route), we were rewarded with acres of cherry blossom, wisteria and, in the absence of any shoots on the vines, different coloured soils

We found a site at Bonnieux which - naturally - became full over the Easter weekend. For access it is necessary to tow through the village. Vans and Campers longer than 5m might well have a problem.

The Mistral is a very strong wind which, we were told, can last for either 3, 6 or 9 days. We had a 3 day version which violently rocked the 'van. Towing through this wind is not a real option. After the wind, the blossom lies on the ground like snow-drifts!

These are some of the images we collected during our stay.
