Wagon Plays in the York Festivals

In memory of
Stewart Lack
Teacher, and producer of Wagon Plays

This site offers information about some of the Wagon Plays which have been performed in the York Festivals. When the Festivals began in 1951, miracle plays were of interest mainly to scholars and ‘street theatre’ was a rarity. These performances did much to foster similar performances elsewhere. Details are taken mainly from the published programmes, which sometimes included a play's text. It is not a site for purists. Those looking for scholarly information about miracle plays will find a link below to a site with comprehensive listings.
