Don Warrington was born in Trinidad on 23rd May
1951, and came to Britain with his family when he was just five
years old.For as long as anyone can remember, Don wanted to
be an actor, "Except for a short
time, when, like every other little boy, I wanted to be a train
driver" he says. Don says that his longing to be an
actor was "My little secret", divulged only
to family and close friends. "It wasn't the
sort of thing which boys from Newcastle admitted to!"
says Don.After school, Don worked as ASM at his local theatre
- The Flora Robson Playhouse in Newcastle -before moving to
London to study at the Drama Centre, for three years. In 1972,
after a brief spell in the German production of HAIR,
Don landed a part in Hampstead Theatre Club's production of
BANANA BOX, alongside Leonard Rossiter. Don was later
cast as Rigby's lodger, Philip Smith, in RISING DAMP.
"My first reaction on hearing the news was fear"
he remembers."I was so green and knew nothing,
but I learned an awful lot about comedy acting from
Leonard Rossiter. He was a tough man but one
of the few actors who could articulate, and help you
achieve the right results". After four series
of RISING DAMP, Don returned to the stage with productions
at theatres such as Haymarket, Leicester, Theatre Royal, Stratford
East and The National. He was of course later cast as Nigel
Beaumont in C.A.T.S.EYES, three series '85-'87.
