Leslie was born 19th February 1960, and was brought
up in Clapham, south London. After leaving the Italia Conti stage
school at 16, Leslie was approached by photographer Brian Asis
to join Freddie's Modelling Agency, who were looking for teenage
girls for magazines and mail order catalouges. Her first big
break into acting came with the offer of a part in the Who's
film QUADROPHENIA, which Leslie says helped to make
up her mind in the model-v's-acting dilemma.Leslie's first television
role was with Jill Gascoine in THE GENTLE TOUCH in
1980. "I knew nothing about working in television
then., but Jill helped me every step of the way and I thoroughly
enjoyed every minute of it".Leslie appeared
in THE CURSE OF THE PINK PANTHER, for which she learnt
karate and so performed many of her own stunts, and later in
NUTCRACKER, a film about a ballet dancer, in which
she appeared alongside Joan Collins. Several television parts
followed including popular plays CUPID DARTS, OUTSIDE
EDGE and the series THE HAPPY APPLE.She experienced
live telly for the first time when she co-presented channel
4's successful pop programme THE TUBE with Jools Holland,
interviewing celeb's from all over the world. "I suffered
terribly from nerves and I never really felt like I
was in control" Leslie says. "Jools was great
because he had the gift of the gab, and knew what he
was talking about, but I always felt like I was bluffing. I
felt I was becoming more of a personality than an actress,
and acting always comes first". Leslie is probably
better known these days for her role of Debs in MEN BEHAVING
BADLY, but in '97 she returned to play a more familiar
type of role (to viewers of C.A.T.S.EYES) when she
guest starred in two episodes of BUGS (series three).
