Formidable Warriors

Vought Corsair ~ Royal Navy

The Pacific Campaign is a neglected one in the UK, but no less deserving than the Battle of Britain. In this painting I have shown the subsequent posthumous Victoria Cross winner Lt Gray VC in his aircraft solving a minor problem before flight. The ship is HMS Formidable, and whilst not wishing to detract at all from the bravery of Lt Gray, I think it important that the braverly of all who served be acknowlaged. The mechanic is wearing a flak jacket for very good reasons, and the "action" aircraft landing is not Gray, but a fellow aviator, equally brave and deserving of praise.

It is not my intention to glorify war in my paintings, indeed it should be feared, but if the memories are not preserved, then the logically thinking members of our society will never learn. Regretfully the media will never be out of business whilst mankind is alive.

This painting is for sale, £500GBP / $850 US + postage
