Charles Monkhouse is an artist
living and working in the Peak District. His current activities include: Residencies
and installations for the rural environment. Working under the cover of dark to
explore what is hidden by the light of day. Marking
the seventeen entrances to Middleton and Smerrill
with stones inscribed with text chosen by members of the parish. Twelve partner stones to the Derbyshire Guide Stoops;
directions to the future written by artists and poets of the Peak District. Seven posters exploring the interaction of colour and language. Like Chevreul's
contrasts, they highlight dissimilarities to promote an understanding, not
only of individual colours, but of Colour itself. Charles is a founder member and current chair of Arts in the
Peak, which campaigns for and promotes the arts in the rural environment. |
