On Good Friday 2011, after an ecumenical service, the walk of witness proceeded up Bridge Road,   and up Hook Road to St Pauls - for hot cross buns.     A few words of prayer,  thinking especially of the community, were given at several points  :  including the site of the new Fircroft Trust home  (right hand photo).

 

 

Mothering Sunday 2011

 

The morning service was a family service,  geared toward  the children and young people.  

 Janette had volunteers make  a cake, each ingredient having a particular message

 Lent Bible Studies

 17th March   till  14 April  starting 7:45

were entitled  "Seven signs from St Johns gospel"

  Barn dance on 29th January 2011 was a great success,  all joining in a number of dance variations
 

        

 

   

 

 

     Nativity by the Sunday School included
     Mary, Joseph and the wise men,  and
     also the clown who turned out to be the  star.

Our Love in a Box scheme 2010 took place during October  -  shoe boxes filled with presents  for children abroad who are very poor, and would not otherwise be receiving presents at Christmas.

We had a coffee morning on Saturday 16 th October to wrap and fill boxes,   and to raise funds - for example each parcel costs £2:50 to be sent .

Contributions for next year can be given and will be gratefully received

                        Harvest Festival 2010 was on 26 October,  and followed by a bring and share lunch

Inauguration of the Korean Christian Fellowship of Chessington   -  on Saturday 25 September  from 4 to  8 pm

Displays of Korean culture, sampled Korean food,   played traditional Korean games.

                  

In the evening there was a celebratory service to which a number of special guests were invited

         Autumn Bible Studies 2010

 

Rev Donald Finnan  resumed his popular bible studies on the second Thursday of each month - lst Autumn -  at 7:30 for 8:00 pm.

Based on Jeremiah, sessions entitled :

9 Sep :    "My life and times".
14 Oct  :  "My message and methods".
11 Nov :   "My conversations with God.
 9 Dec :    "The price  I paid".

Children’s  CHAT *  in 2010 was from Monday  26th  to Friday 30th  July, from 9:30 to 11:45 each day.

A fun-filled activity week for children of primary school age (5 to 10 year olds) resident in Chessington or Hook.

This year's theme was   -  'The  Ark'   -  and covered Obedience, Trust, Patience, Hope, and Promise

*   CHAT stands for Churches in Chessington and Hook, acting together.

Our summer fete in 2010 was on Saturday 12th June,   from 11am to 2pm.      

Proceeds  toward Our vision, Our mission, and Our premises. 

We  used the outside areas for stalls - there were the ever popular plants, and books, and all the other favourites.  

 

 

           

         

 

   

On Sunday, our anniversary day, our earlier minister Rev Philip Seaton lead the morning service, with choir and orchestra.      In the evening we were led by the group "Tongues of Fire".

On  Saturday 22 May 2010 we held a coffee morning in aid of the Fircroft Trust - a local charity helping children with disabilities.   They have just received planning permission for residential accommodation for their youngsters on the former White Hart pub site in Hook Road.   We raised £400.

Our Christmas Celebrations 2009

When the angels appeared to the shepherds 2000 years ago and sang out 'Peace on earth',     it wasn't just pie in the sky  -  it was a message from heaven itself.

The peace that Jesus promises provides security and hope that is rock solid in an increasingly unstable world.

 

 

 

 

  

 

  

Again last Christmas, the tree in the vestibule window was for remembering people.

In particular those taken from us in the last year or so :

including Cecil Jones,  Mike Cowley,  Tony Watson,  Marie Errington,  Gillian Harvey, Maureen Mills, John Haworth..

Harvest Festival in 2009 was  on 11 October,  provisions were invited for our display;  and for the Waterloo Christian Centre. 

On the Saturday evening we had a "Harvest Chill - Out", an evening meal, with a "Call My Bluff" interlude.

CHAT   2009 :

Each day from July  27th  to 31st,  Children’s  CHAT *  held activity mornings for 5 to 10 year olds, on the theme of – ‘Show Stoppers’ at St Mary’s Centre.

The helpers were the Cast, and the children the Crew.  

Monday was :   The Creation
Tuesday :   David and Goliath
Wednesday :   Daniel and the Lion
Thursday :   The birth of Christ
Friday :   Christ's death

*   CHAT stands for Churches in Chessington and Hook, acting together.

 

   
On Sunday everyone,  parents  included, joined in a family service in the hall.   Jackie Bone of Surbiton Community Church, gave a short talk highlighting inputting into our Community, to make the community a better place.

 Posies were handed out by the children.    The youth leaders were thanked for their work
 during the year, and were re-dedicated.

  TREE OF REMEMBRANCE        DECEMBER    2008

              

The tree of Remembrance sat in the right hand window of the vestibule.

 

All were invited to write on a star the name of people - friends or family, who we were keen to remember.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

OUR  WINTER  FAYRE    2008    was on Saturday 22 Nov

         
 

 

 

There were all sorts of stalls, children's colouring competition,  a display by the Chessington Art Group, with useful advice on "how to", a choice of english or korean lunches, AND of course Father Christmas.

   It was really well attended, and we raised around a £1,000

  REMEMBRANCE  DAY  SERVICE 2008 -  was on Sunday 9th November.    We had a map of showing all the wars going on today.

While the young people  were present, we spoke about how all the wars disrupt schools in those countries.

2008  : 

CHAT , a combination of Chessington and Hook churches, once again ran a week - from 28 July to 1st Aug - of activity mornings for over 60 children.

Based in 2008 on "The Olympic challenge".

They made biscuits,  learned songs, and did lots of arts and craft.

Then they came on the Sunday to join in the family service, and to show the results of their endeavours.

 preacher : Rev Bill Prince, who was minister at Chessington from 1977 to 1984.
