ABOUT THE JOHN SMITH HOME BUILD ORGANS

The Original "Busker" 20

The Senior 20

(John Smith Playing The New 26 Note )

Many people are intrigued when they see and hear mechanically played musical instruments, in particular the large and complicated fair organs with their overwhelming impact; the original audio visual experience.

Most people are content to just sit back and enjoy the experience, but many, like myself are fascinated by the workings of these instruments.

There are books which throw some light on the subject, but alas very little practical information to enable one to be built.

The fact is of course the workings are both complex and diverse, every organ builder having their own ideas, the long term reliability also means that very few people ever get to see the bits that make them work .

The "JOHN SMITH" organs were developed to enable the practical person to learn the fundamental principles by building their own instrument. It would be no good trying to build a full size fair organ as a first attempt, but the Busker design builds into a remarkable little 20 note, paper roll playing, pipe organ, designed by an amateur for other amateurs, the Busker is valveless making it an achievable first organ.

Whilst mainly a wood working project, the sort of people who have successfully built them include model makers and model engineers. The materials used are mostly everyday, and seem to be often found in the off-cuts from other projects. (however a kit of some parts is available if required)

The building package includes a full set of drawings (carpenters style), detailed written instructions, a 50 minute video showing the detail and assembly, and a short test roll to ensure compatibility with other instruments.

The package has proved to be very successful, both as a super project to build and for the amazing results that have been achieved.

A large selection of music is available in printed master form (details of a simple punch are included in the video).

In response to many requests from satisfied Busker builders, the Senior 20, is a similar, follow on design, but more ambitious, with street organ performance, a fast rewind and multi-function animated conductor. (You Will Need The Busker Plans As Refrence To Build This)
