For over 40 years I have been a member of various Recorded Music Societies. These societies meet on a regular basis to hear programmes given by guests or members on classical music. I started at Aberdeen University in the late 1950s and continued with Glasgow Recorded Music Society when I returned to work there in 1969. I am now retired and live in Cupar in Fife, Scotland. Those Recorded Music Societies of which I am a member include: Carnoustie, Dundee and Kirkcaldy. I am also Chairman of the Scottish Group of the Federation of Recorded Music Societies.
I give many talks throughout the UK on various subjects. So far this year I have been to places as far apart as Falkirk, Golspie, Thurso and Wolverhampton.
I collect recordings ranging from cylinders and 78s, through LPs to CDs. My interest in records started when my parents gave me a wind-up Columbia Grafonola portable and 6 78rpm records for Christmas when I was around 12 years old. This has led me to join societies such as the City of London Phonograph & Gramophone Society and the Dvorak Society. My interests in old records lie in British Dance Bands, Instrumental, Music Hall and Variety, Orchestral, Jazz, and Vocal. One non musical area I specialise in is in Documentary 78s.
