Notes:
In "With
Churchills to War" Peter Gudgin gives the AOS of 48 RTR as
being brown. M.A. Bellis gives it a red.
As original
constituted the Brigade consisted of 42RTR, 44RTR and 48RTR, 43
RTR replacing 44 RTR in Sept/Oct 1940. 48RTR thus was orinally
the least senior regiment in the pbrigade and was allocated the
175 serial. When the brigade was re-organised 48RTR appear to
have retained this serial despite precedence (ref. training photos
for Dieppe)

Notes:
1. North Irish
Horse transfered from 25 Tank Brigade to replace 145 RAC. There
is some confusion over the relative seniority of NIH and 12 RTR.
12 RTR is often held to be senior as it was a regular unit whilst
NIH was militia. However, whilst 12 RTR was raised during the
war, the NIH was a cavalry regiment in the Supplementary Reserve
prior to transfering to the RAC in September 1939 and so was given
seniority within 21 Tank Brigade. According to Richard Doherty's
NIH Regimental History, this is confirmed in the official account
21 Tank Brigade Operations in Italy, August 1944-May 1945.

Please note that
I cannot claim this article to be definitive and it very much represents
work in progress and so may be subject to change. Where applicable I
have given precedence to 'first' hand accounts over those from the insignia
reference books (which in any case are often contradictory with respect
to Army Tank Brigades). Any comments and corrections are most welcome,
especially if backed up with photographic references, or from first
hand recollections etc.
