TIM HARTNELL

A Memorial to the founder of Interface Magazine and author of  many ZX80 and early micro books.

Jesus said: "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" John 14:6

After trying to trace Tim Hartnell for his input for this website, I found out by a colleague in Australia that he died in 1991. See this link:

Tim ran the ZX80 Users Group and produced the 'Interface' magazines, as well as numerous early home computing & video game books, see 'BOOKS' section).

Hi,

finally got those slides scanned.

Sorry for the delay. It took a while to find someone who could scan slides.

4.jpg and 1.jpg are rather important.

1.jpg (16596 bytes)2.jpg (21305 bytes)4.jpg (26273 bytes)5.jpg (35635 bytes)

I took them in April 1980. They were taken outside Madame Tussaud's while Tim was waiting for us. He had just recently purchased the ZX80 and, while he was waiting for us, he was reading a book on programming. was reading a chapter on For/Next loops at the time and was trying to understand how they worked and what they were used for. It was around this time that he realised that, if he was having so much trouble working out how to do this programming thing, then a lot of other people probably were too. So these photos pretty much show the birth of Interface Publications.

The other two were taken in the Science museum the next day. They show an exhibit of electronic/computerised equipment, including the ZX80. I don't know how long the exhibit lasted for. It might have been permanent. As the labels says, the computer was launched at the end of January 1980 and I took this photo in April. It is amazing that it made such an impact in such a short period of time.

I have added a brief bit about this on the Interface Publications history page. Check out my new photo gallery while you are there. :-)

Hope you find these photos interesting.
