Women Hop-pickers opposite Netherhouse Moor,
Circa. 1900

The local Hop picking industry was an important income for many local families.

There were several local farms growing hops, the main ingredient for beer production. The most productive hop-field's belonged to the White family, formally of Grove Farm.

Their fields straddled Crookham Village and Church Crookham, notably the fields opposite Netherhouse Moor.

The industry developed in the 19th century, and thrived until the mid 1930's, with the last hops being harvested in 1974, a result of local tastes changing to continental style lagers.
