(600 B.C - 50 A.D)

This hillfort would have contained dwellings, and workplaces, probably supporting kilns used for pottery and ironwork, and would have formed busy streets.

At 182 meters (500ft) above sea level, and having a flat, internal area of approximately 10.5 hectares, evidence shows that it contained a large, permanent, working populace, and acted as protection from the warlike elements that roamed the area during those times.

Some of the hillfort defences are still obvious today,  although there is no evidence of such constructions on the North and North East approaches, which may be due to the naturally steep slopes making this an unnecessary requirement.

There is also evidence of a medieval park pale along the western side.
