We have a small to medium garden. Prior to being trimmed this year (see below) our neighbour's hedge ranged in height from 26-'-35' high.

The hedge was trimmed in Feb. 2002. It is now 15' high, but is higher at right hand side.
It had not been trimmed in height before this, for approx.10 years. Whilst the present height is a distinct improvement, it is still too high for us to maintain our side of the without either a stable platform or professional
At an average growth rate of 3' per year, within 5 year's time, we will be back to where we started. The hedge, even at its present height, taken in conjunction with the deciduous trees, at present over 26 feet, still causes appreciable shadow to rooms and to the garden.
"Leylandiis are two metres
This neighbour has hedges encroaching over a metre on to our member's
garden, preventing its full use! Not much can go grow well!
He knows that he can get into
trouble by ignoring the hedge at the front of the house hedge by the public
footpath. He keeps this well under under control and within his boundary because he does not wish to risk the Council coming down on him. He is not so worried about causing a nuisance to his
defenceless neigbours and preventing them from using a
strip of land, 'worth ~£6,000 at today's price'.
